POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
OVERVIEW
Most cruise lines feature some of the largest dance clubs a float with state-of-the-art lighting and sound technology. We’re looking for professional, hardworking and enthusiastic disc jockeys who love to entertain people and make sure they have a great time. A ship’s Pro DJs provide entertainment in various shipboard locations which, in addition to dance clubs, include poolside and deck areas, various lounges and bars, and a host of other venues. DJs go beyond taking requests and create a fun and memorable environment for our guests.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Record and upload a 7 – 10 minute video of your live performance. The performance can be anywhere from a live show or in the comfort of your bedroom just as long as you display what you do and how you do it. We especially need to see “crowd interaction”, it’s important that we see how you sound & comfort level on the microphone. In this video you should be interacting with your live or imaginary audience. We recommend that you upload this video to either youtube.com or vimeo.com and then submit the link to the video with your application. If the file is under 50Mb you can upload it in your online application.
- Record a 20 minute “Open Format” music mix of either one of your live shows or in the studio. In this mix we are looking at your mixing ability and song selection. Remember this needs to be an OPEN FORMAT mix.. a sampling of what you would play to our cruise guests that hail from all walks of life and from places all over the world. We recommend that you upload this mix to a service such as soundcloud.com or use the audio upload function on the online application.

OVERVIEW:
Each ship features a state-of-the-art piano bar that showcases one of our many electrifying Piano Bar Entertainers. Musicality, personality, and unpredictability are prerequisites for these … “unique” entertainers. So, sing us a song…!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver high energy and interactive entertainment to our guests in line with a ship’s brand and live music guidelines.
- Provide an average of four hours of high energy entertainment to our guests as scheduled by the ship’s management.
- Assist the beverage department in meeting and exceeding beverage sales by providing the best in entertainment.
- Actively participate in assigned activities including, but not limited to trainings, drills, safety briefings, meetings and performances.
- Demonstrate commitment to a ship’s Service Values.
- Perform ship’s safety function, including “Port Manning”, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A talented entertainer that demonstrate strong skills as a piano/vocal entertainer.
- Repertoire containing at least two hundred and fifty classic piano bar songs, including sing-alongs.
- Demonstrated ability to perform completely acoustic.
- Demonstrated ability to render high energy, interactive and engaging performances.
- Related performing experience on cruise ships, piano bars and/or dueling piano bars.
- Ability to create and lead musical based games and activities.

OVERVIEW:
Guests are on vacation and want to have FUN! As our Guitar Soloist, YOU and your guitar bring the FUN through interactive and upbeat songs, sing-alongs, toasts and witty repartee with the crowd. You’ll be creating instant parties in many of our venues across the ship such as large atriums or even small stages along the promenade. This ain’t no coffee house gig! We want our entertainers developing some “bits” With the bar staff, coming up with a drinking game based on a song lyric, interacting with guests in the room, taking requests, and above all, bringing the FUN.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers high energy and interactive entertainment to our guests in line with a ship’s brand of live music guidelines.
- Actively participates in assigned activities including, but not limited to training, drills, safety briefings, meetings and performances.

- Artist would be scheduled for around 5 hours of playing time per day and will usually, though not guaranteed, receive one day off in seven.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Talented Entertainer:
- Strong skills as a vocalist

- Strong showmanship skills!
- Minimum repertoire of 175 high energy pop and rock covers with special emphasis on sing-alongs and artists such as Jimmy Buffett, UB 40, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, The Doors, and the like.
- Demonstrated ability to perform completely acoustic or with tasteful support from harmonizers, loopers, and other similar effects.
- An ability to provide an average of four hours of high energy entertainment daily to our guests as scheduled by ship’s management.

OVERVIEW:
The Mainstream duo entertains guests nightly, performing only the greatest pop and rock hits from the 1960s through today and they know best how to get guests on their feet and having a good time. These talented entertainers will perform an average of four hours per night in venues ranging from large atriums to small stages along our promenade. They love providing everything from easy listening music, to music that “raises the roof”, figuratively speaking.

OVERVIEW:
At the front of every band is a dynamic and talented team of a male and female vocalist. These vocal entertainers transport their audiences on a daily basis to several different musical eras ranging from the sounds of Motown to the top club hits of today and everything in between.
Vocalists are individually hired for their ensembles, they rehearse for anywhere between one and three weeks and then join their ship for the remainder of their contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Front their band for an average of four hours of musical entertainment as scheduled by the ship’s management.
- Deliver highest quality musical entertainment to our guests in line with a ship’s brand and live music guidelines.
- Provide musical support for variety entertainers as needed.

OVERVIEW:
Beethoven, Vivaldi, Broadway, Katy Perry, and everything in between! Our classical trios entertain our guests up to five hours each day with an eclectic mix of classics, showstoppers from Broadway and American Top 40 Hits from the 1960s through today. The FUN doesn’t stop there! Using harmonizers, loopers and other cool effects these small groups create beautifully orchestrated arrangements to bring their performance to the next level!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Entertain in assigned venues as strolling musicians or stationary up to five hours per day.

COUNTRY DUO
OVERVIEW:
Our Country Duos specialize in a wide range of country hits from George Strait and Carrie Underwood to the Josh Abbot Band in addition to covering American Top 40 Hits from the 1960s through today. These unique duos, consisting of two singer-instrumentalists, deliver an engaging and FUN modern country music experience for our guests cruising on select ships in the fleet.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers on a ship’s brand of live music entertainment by providing high energy and engaging entertainment as scheduled by the shipboard Entertainment Management.
- Entertain in assigned venues up to five hours per day.
- Commitment to Carnival Services Values.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- A musically talented duo consisting of two, talented country-influenced entertainers that demonstrate strong skills as singers and instrumentalists (preferably at least one member performing on guitar).
- Demonstrated ability to perform completely acoustic and/or with tracks containing high quality samples and sequences.
- Large repertoire containing at least 200 songs including a large percentage of country music ranging from old-time classics to contemporary hits.
- Ability to authentically represent the sound and look of a contemporary country artist/group.</span.

OVERVIEW:
The Latin Ensemble delivers high-energy, engaging performances by providing an authentic Latin music experience. This Ensemble may be a duo, trio or quartet consisting of Latin-influenced vocalist instrumentalists. The Latin Ensemble may perform both acoustically and/or with the support of high-quality backing tracks or electronic devices and effects. The Latin Ensemble covers a wide range of traditional and contemporary Latin pop music in addition to selections of American pop music from the 60s through today. In addition, select ships may utilize the Latin Ensemble to provide additional musical support for production shows, branded events or in conjunction with other musical acts on board.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver a ship’s brand of entertainment by providing high energy and engaging musical performances as scheduled by shipboard and/or shore side Entertainment Management.
- Entertain in assigned venues for four hours each day.

Strong showmanship is required as these performers LOVE entertaining our guests.
Select ships feature an augmented trio utilizes up to a 5 piece horn section and some ships feature one horn soloist. Members of the horn section are individually hired for their ensembles, they rehearse for anywhere between one and three weeks and then join their ship for the remainder of their contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

OVERVIEW:
Every ship features a live band that is the heart and soul of our entertainment ranks. A 4-piece rhythm section, comprised of electric guitar, keys, bass, and drums, provide the foundation for each of these bands. Each rhythm section performs in a commercial-level band that actively covers a large range of popular and Top 40 music genres from the 1960s through today. In addition to covering a wide variety of commercial music styles, select ships use the rhythm section in larger bands that also provide the sound track to our award winning Vegas-style production shows and Guest Entertainers.
Members of the rhythm section are individually hired for their ensembles, they rehearse for anywhere between one and three weeks and then join their ship for the remainder of their contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver highest quality musical entertainment to our guests in line with a ship’s brand and live music guidelines.
- Provide musical support for production shows and variety entertainers.
- Provide an average of four hours of musical entertainment to our guests as scheduled by the ship’s management.
- Actively participate in assigned activities including, but not limited to trainings, drills, safety briefings, meetings and performances.
- Demonstrate commitment to Service Values.
- Perform ship’s safety function, including “Port Manning”, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- An education that emphasizes the performance of commercial music including techniques and concepts found in modern pop and rock repertoire.
- Demonstrated understanding of how to use technology (amp modelers, effects and synthesizers) in performance, and the discipline necessary to accurately prepare and perform cover tunes.
- Strong sight reading and transposition skills.
- Applicable experience in theatre pit orchestras, wedding/bar bands, and similar ensembles.
- The ability to extend beyond a performer into an entertainer.
- Proficiency in the English language

OVERVIEW:
In the spirit of great horn sections such as the Phoenix Horns, Tower of Power, or even the Bruno Mars Horn Section members of our Horn Sections rehearse together as a unit, join the ship and then WOW our guests with their wall of sound and engaging performances. Strong showmanship is required as these performers LOVE entertaining our guests.
Select ships feature an augmented trio utilizes up to a 5 piece horn section and some ships feature one horn soloist. Members of the horn section are individually hired for their ensembles, they rehearse for anywhere between one and three weeks and then join their ship for the remainder of their contract.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- The ability to extend beyond a performer into an entertainer.
- Musical proficiency in tone, articulation, dynamics, and phrasing comparable to University-level education or higher.
- Advanced improvisational skills as a musician.
- Advanced sight reading and transposition skills.
- Ability and previous experience operating loopers, harmonizers, and programs such as Ableton Live.
- Knowledge of Top 40 music styles from the 1960s through today.
- Applicable experience in wedding/bar bands, alongside DJs, pit bands and similar commercial music ensembles.
- Ability to quickly and effortlessly memorize music under tight timelines.
- Ability to stand while performing for extended periods of time is required.
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Saxophone:
- Tenor as a primary horn with professional level Alto proficiency is required.
- Saxophonists with developed altissimo are preferred.
- Flute Double: Range must include up to a high C or beyond.
- Trumpet:
- Range: must include up to a high E or beyond.
- Players with strong experience as a split Lead/2nd player are required.
- Flugelhorn proficiency is a plus!
- Trombone:
- Range: must include at least down to a low E and up to a high C or beyond.

OVERVIEW:
The Caribbean Soloist provides an authentic island experience as a steel pan entertainer! This musician delivers high energy, engaging and Fun entertainment to our guests on select ships in the fleet. This performer entertains on our outside decks, in our pub, with the DJ, anywhere that we can infuse the island vibe!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivers on a ship’s brand of live music entertainment by providing high energy and engaging entertainment as scheduled by the shipboard Entertainment Management.
- Entertains in assigned venues up to five hours per day.
- Commitment to Services Values.
- Complies with all company operational procedures (professional development training, orientations, and other related programming as required and scheduled).
- Performs ship’s safety function, including “Port Manning”, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Musically talented steel pan player; the ability to sing is preferred
- Able to perform with high quality tracks composed of superior audio samples.
- A one hundred and seventy-five (175) song repertoire of Caribbean and American Top 40 mainstream hits from the 70s through today.
- Outgoing personality and flexible personality
- Ability to authentically represent the culture, music, and humor of a nation within the Caribbean islands.
- Demonstrated ability to create and lead a party.
- Applicable performing experiences on cruise ships, resorts, hotels, and high traffic tourist areas.
- English fluency and near perfect diction are required.
- Ability to perform safety functions and meet medical requirements, including standing while performing.
